2024: The Founding
Subthesis gets a name and its first tools
Subthesis was founded in 2024 with a simple goal: help researchers spend less time wrestling with logistics and more time doing meaningful research.
Every early tool was born from a real problem, either one I hit myself or one I heard about from fellow students. The first versions were small and focused. Each one did a single job well, worked in the browser, and asked nothing of the user: no account, no payment, no installation.
Principles from day one
- Accessibility. Effective research support should be available to everyone, regardless of institutional resources.
- Rigor. Tools should reflect sound methodology, not shortcuts.
- Simplicity. Research is hard enough. The tools should not add to it.
- Student-centered. Built for how students actually work, from the first question to the final defense.
Those principles carried Subthesis into its platform year in 2025.
