From a handful of tools to a full research platform

2025 was the year Subthesis became a platform.

In June, the current Subthesis platform went live and the blog opened. The blog was built to teach, not just to market: long-form guides on methodology, data analysis, and academic writing, many with audio versions for researchers who learn on the go.

57 tools, one place

Through the year, the tool library grew from a handful of utilities into 57 free, browser-based tools covering the full research lifecycle: study design, sampling, survey and interview protocols, codebooks, statistics, effect sizes, posters, and presentations. By November, every tool had its own in-depth guide and FAQ.

The Research Assistant

November brought the biggest release yet. The Research Assistant guides a researcher through an entire study:

• Qualitative: sampling, interview protocols, ethics applications, coding, theme development, and COREQ and CASP quality checks.
• Quantitative: study design, sample size, randomization, statistical analysis plans, and data management.
• Mixed methods: integration planning, joint displays, and meta-inference generation.

It also introduced AI feedback that runs directly in the browser, so a researcher's drafts stay on their own device.

Next came courses, books, and AI support in 2026.
