What data leaves my browser when I use Subthesis?
The work you type into the tools and the Research Assistant stays in your browser and isn't sent to Subthesis. Subthesis has no server that receives it. A few actions do make requests to other services.
What stays on your device
- Everything you enter in the free tools
- Your Research Assistant projects and tool data
- Your AI Advisor chats and prompts, which the local AI processes on your device
When data does leave your browser
- Loading pages. The site is hosted on GitHub Pages. Like any web host, GitHub receives standard request information, such as your IP address, when you load a page.
- Turning on the local AI. Your browser downloads the model files. The download sends no project content.
- Funding Search in the Research Assistant. Your search terms are sent to NIH RePORTER to find grants.
- Embedded videos and files. YouTube videos on course and blog pages, and Google Drive files in some blog posts, load from those services.
- Email and outside links. Emailing Subthesis, the Research Assistant's Feedback form (a Google Form), and links to Amazon, Teachable, or social networks all go to those services.
What Subthesis never receives
Because there are no accounts or analytics, Subthesis doesn't receive your tool entries, projects, or browsing activity. It only receives what you choose to send by email.
