Week 5 · Adaptive Planning Program
22. Integrating Behavioral Theory
By the end you'll be able to
- Map intervention components to behavioral theory constructs
- Explain the theoretical mechanisms of behavior change
- Strengthen interventions by addressing multiple theoretical constructs
An intervention without theory is just a guess. We overlay behavioral theory onto your chosen interventions, using frameworks like the Health Belief Model or Social Cognitive Theory to ensure every program component targets a specific theoretical construct.
By mapping components, such as using a modeling video to target Self-Efficacy, you ensure you understand the specific mechanisms driving behavior change.
Practice quiz
- Question 1According to the lesson, what is the role of behavioral theory in an intervention?
- Question 2Using the lesson’s example, a modeling video where a peer demonstrates a healthy behavior is best mapped to which theoretical construct?
- Reflection 3Pick one program component (e.g., a testimonial, a tracking app, a fear appeal) and name a theoretical construct it could target. Why does that pairing make sense?
